Roundtable Interview with Karla Souza

Karla Souza is perhaps best known for co-starring opposite Viola Davis in ABC’s hit international drama “How to Get Away with Murder,” which recently completed its six-season run. Is now starring a new all-out hilarious new comedy “Home Economics” premiering Wednesday, April 7th at 8:30-9:00 p.m. EST (Episodes can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu).

From writers and executive producers Michael Colton and John Aboud, the series takes a look at the heartwarming yet super uncomfortable and sometimes frustrating relationship among three adult siblings: one in the 1%, one middle-class and one barely holding on. The comedy is inspired by the life of writer and executive producer Michael Colton.

I recently had the opportunity to see the first two episodes and attend a round-table interview with Karla Souza to hear more about the show. She openly shared with us how she feels about her new role. “I’m so in love with laughing at work all day we’ve all had that heavy year. Here are a few more highlights from the interview.

I know everyone is wondering what it’s like behind the scenes during Covid Carla shared with us first-hand her experience with the cast. “We have table reads through Zoom and rehearsals with masks on right before shooting. It’s so hard to be funny and to receive people’s intentions with a mask on when you take it off and you’re barely getting their performance on camera there’s a lot of adjusting to do when you’re filming a Comedy during Covid.

During the interview Karla expressed how grateful she was to still be working during the pandemic. With all of that said we’re so lucky to have been on it and as an industry, able to continue to work and to be put on a project when people are so hungry for things right now and so hungry to just like lay back, relax, and have a few laughs and stuff. It is crazy I forgot how hard Comedy is. It’s kept me on my toes and especially the cast. Sashir from SNL and Jimmy does his own program on YouTube of comedy so they came in full force warmed up.”
