The Carpenter Movie Review+Giveaway

Contemplative, deviant, and allowing to believe in faith!

THE CARPENTER, by Garrett Batty, is a different take on faith-based storytelling, treading an unconventional route that mingles martial arts with the spirit of divinity. In 29 AD, orphan Oren, an MMA fighter, moves to Nazareth to take part in a fighting circuit. It is here that he first meets Yeshua, a younger version of Jesus Christ, who teaches him carpentry, love, and resilience.

With this combination, the novel sets off intense bouts of MMA fighting along with heavy metal music and contemplative time to try and understand purpose, faith, and redemption. The movie is full of wisdom and the transformation of a person when Yeshua teaches values to help Oren begin looking beyond fighting for his fame into deeper values. For some reviewers, parts of Yeshua’s teachings felt more self-help-oriented than biblically accurate, which can make the story broader yet less anchored for viewers who come more traditionally.

The interesting combination of action with the journey of realization in this film makes it an especially interesting watch for those open to faith-inspired stories with a twist of modernity. If you are on the lookout for a faith-based film that steps outside traditional boundaries, then The Carpenter might just be a very unique experience for you.
