Meet Winston Deavor who’s a supporting character in The Incredibles 2. Winston leads a world-class telecommunications company alongside his genius sister, Evelyn Deavor. He is a huge supporter of supersand wants them to return to the spotlight.
I am thankful Brad Bird made the call and Bob Odenkirk (voice of “Winston Deavor”) & Catherine Keener (“Evelyn Deavor”) joined the cast of Incredibles 2. All praise has been spoken on his behalf and because of his ability to recognize great talent I am honored to have recently interview with this two amazing individuals. This interview doesn’t contain spoilers from the movie.
The interview opened with a brief discussion around Bob and Catherine’s first reaction when the initial call from Brad Bird came through to join the cast of Incredibles 2.
Catherine-“When I received a call from my agent she said that Brad Bird wants to speak with me. We had a three appointment to talk. I didn’t know that the movie was being expedited for a year(Moved up a year or more)I had no idea. So, and then when he said I’m doing this, I got on the phone and I started pouring praise and all this on it.
Bob-Yeah, all we did was praise Brad! Can you believe it? No, but I’m in a Brad Bird movie that’s what’s blowing my mind.
We all want superpowers in real life so Bob and Catherine had to share the one superpower they would wish for…
Bob-I would like to be able to eat whatever I want and not gain weight. It’s an obsession. It’s a part of my life too much it would be wonderful.
Catherine-Well, I would just like to be able to go home at any time that’s all I wanna do teleport.
Like many of us, I have always wondered if the actors and actress have challenges on the set. Catherine and Bob shared their struggles and from the responses like many of us, we are harder on ourselves than the people around us. Brad sat during the recording of each script to direct and provide feedback.
Catherine-“I was taping one run for hours I would start and stop. Brad would say “What are you doing?” You have to trust Brad, he’s putting that movie together obviously, up at Pixar. So, you’re not really seeing that and he knows the tone of it all and the other characters and it’s changing over time. So, you could feel it changing in the script, the tone, a little bit, but you don’t know really know where or how and you never have the whole script. But you really just have to guess at what might work.”
Bob-“Last night, he (Brad) said I used a lotta your stuff. I think he was saying that a fair amount of the things that I tried or offered up, he said he used. But that’s the mark of a…”
Catherine– A great filmmaker. They’re saying it’s your part. Here you go.
Bob-Because they have confidence in their own vision they can listen to everybody and if it’s better they just go with it.
The messages and images in movies can be very powerful. Bob shared how happy he was for his daughter to see the film and his reflections after he seeing Incredibles 2.
“I haven’t fully analyzed it, but you guys are all great brains. Everybody talks about how Holly Hunter and the Elastigirl’s story and being a female superhero is so great for women, and it is I’m glad my daughter saw that.”
After many years of waiting I’m excited Incredibles 2 drops in theaters June 16th I can’t wait to take my family to see it. In INCREDIBLES 2 is back their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
I recently returned home from an amazing press junket featuring the Incredibles 2. check out the Incredibles 2 Collection, interviews with the first female director of a Pixar short “Bao“, Frozone, Violet and Dash, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl plus in the inside scoop on Pixar Fest at Disneyland.
